AEMET activa nivel naranja por lluvias y tormentas en Lorca.

According to the state meteorological agency, rainfall of up to 30 mm per hour is expected.

The Lorca Municipal Council maintains the mosquito plan in a phase prior to the emergency before the orange alert due to rain and storms.

Caution is advised at school exits, avoiding risky situations, staying calm, and following local police instructions. The same applies to outdoor sports facilities, parks, and gardens for any eventualities.

Emergency Mayor José Martínez stated, «We urge caution in all actions, especially when driving vehicles, avoiding rivers, ravines, torrents, and low-lying areas prone to flooding.»

On March 18, 2025, Emergency Councilor José Martínez announced that Aett has activated the orange alert level due to rain and storms in Lorca. The council is maintaining the plan in the pre-alert phase to be prepared for any potential events. The state meteorological agency (AEM) forecasts 30 mm of rainfall in 1 hour, with the alert ending at 17:59.

José Martínez emphasized that the purpose of this phase is to warn the relevant authorities and services, as well as inform the population. The Inunorlo plan involves the necessary preparations for municipal emergencies, involving local police, Lorca Water services, firefighters, and other entities.

Extreme caution is advised at school exits, with residents encouraged to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel. If driving is necessary, it is recommended to stick to main roads and avoid flooded areas, as the risk of flooding increases rapidly. Respect barriers and do not attempt to cross flooded roads. In case of storm surges or rising water levels, avoid underground parking garages or ground floors.

If driving, avoid parking in flood-prone areas and do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Be aware of high ground locations and how to reach them quickly in case of emergency. Abandon your vehicle if water levels rise significantly, the vehicle gets stuck, or you encounter difficulty opening doors or windows.

Other preventive measures include securing outdoor items that could be swept away by water, regularly checking roofs and drains, and avoiding camping or parking near dry riverbeds or on riverbanks to prevent sudden flash flooding.

In light of potential incidents arising from these rains, the municipal emergency service urges the population to consider preventive measures and self-protection to ensure safety. Follow instructions from emergency services and remain informed through official channels to stay safe and informed.
